At the end of every day, count what you have and compare it with what you should have. That is a cash-up.
What to count
- Cash in the drawer
- Mobile money received (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa / Mixx, Airtel Money, HaloPesa)
- Card and bank payments
Compare with the day's sales
Sales minus expenses paid from the drawer should equal what you counted. A small difference can be a mistake. The same difference every week is a warning.
Keep the float separate
Start each day with the same float (change money) and do not mix it with the takings.
Write it down, sign it
The person closing the till writes the totals and signs. It makes everyone careful.
In VunaBook: Money → Cash-Up shows what each account should hold, so you only enter what you counted.
