Selling on credit without losing money

Credit brings customers back, but only if you know who owes what and you follow up on time.

Soma kwa Kiswahili

Many businesses in Tanzania sell on credit: to regular customers, contractors, hotels. Done well, it grows sales. Done badly, it eats your cash.

Set a limit for each customer

Decide how much each customer may owe at most. When they reach it, they pay before buying more on credit.

Agree the date

Every credit sale needs a date to pay. Write it on the sale, not in your head.

Send statements

A short statement (what they bought, what they paid, what they owe) ends most arguments. Send it every month.

Follow up early

A debt of one week is easy to collect. A debt of six months often is not. Check who is late every week.

In VunaBook: set a credit limit on the customer, and the Customers Who Owe report shows who is late, with their statement ready to print or share.
